Do you know what exactly is an IDC socket connector? IDC socket connectors also known as Insulation Displacement Connectors, are mainly used in telecommunications field. So how much do you know about IDC socket connectors?
Let's learn the knowledge about IDC socket connectors together.
IDC connector is an electrical connector placed on the head of socket for cold welding wires. The number of wires that can be placed in the IDC socket connector is 6 to 64, and there is always an indicator on the head of socket which could indicate where the first wire must be inserted.
Commonly IDC connectors were used in telecommunications and networking field, it allows users to swap wires and change wiring configurations with relative ease. It was originally made of a single wire, but later it had evolved to connect multiple wires into a receptacle header.
The number of wires and the spacing between the wires are different for each IDC socket connector. The common wires range is from 6 to 64, and the spectrum used by the network spectrum is much larger. By using these sockets, user can design a dedicated ribbon cable, but the manufacturer usually puts the wires together.
